The Blissful Feather Bed! |
| If you don’t wake up in the mornings full of the joys of spring, then there’s a good chance you’re not getting the quality sleep you deserve. Not all bedding is equal meaning not all bedding gives you the same sleeping experience. Try nodding off and waking up on a comfy feather bed, and you’ll know just what I'm talking about! |
If you’re still looking for that blissful sleep, but just can’t get comfortable in your bed at night, then it’s a fair bet that your bed or bedding items are to blame. What you lay on and cover yourself with all contribute to that snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug experience. Maybe your mattress is adequate, but top it with a feather bed, and you will think you’ve died and gone to heaven the moment you lie down.
The feather bed was in, then out, and now it's in again, and the guess is that it's here to stay this time. As the term suggests, the first "feather beds" were made of feathers. But now polyester, down, feathers, or combinations of feathers and down are used to create a feather bed, although feather and down are more comfy, and therefore more costly, than synthetic materials.
To give you an idea of a traditional feather bed, it's usually about 4 inches thick and stitched in channels or a baffle box type of design. With this amount of cushioning, even a hard mattress feels soft and cuddly. But if you prefer or need a firm sleeping surface, then a feather bed may not be right for you! Personally, my feather bed has transformed the quality of my sleep and each night I go to bed I actually feel as though I'm being hugged by the pad! It's simply wonderful and it's so easy to nod off too.
A traditional feather does take a little looking after though and you will need to give it a really good shake out every couple of weeks or so, then turn it over, and also rotate it on the bed to keep the fill evenly distributed. You may also want to check the cleaning instructions before purchasing a feather mattress as some can be washed at home, but will probably need to have a commercial size machine. Alternatively, you can simply take it to the dry cleaners about once a year so as to keep it looking and feeling fresh.
There's no question of doubt that a feather bed adds warmth and comfort to any bed. Put one on your bed and relax into the gentle soothing all round support of feathers and let the stresses and strains of the day fade away. Are you ready for a really good nights sleep?
